As the morning went on I used most of the above. The 400litre compost bin looks a little like the bottom half of a dalek and is positioned at the bottom of the garden. Tree bark and grass cuttings have already found a home within. The weed mat is in place over the area I hope to grow veg in, and the gaps between the houses sandstone blocks and the path, where I suspect water runs under the house, have been plugged. I hope. All very domestic, all rather dull.
Wildlife news is somewhat less dull. The kookaburras were in full voice this morning, laughing loudly in the back garden. Lorikeets were feeding on the flowers of a couple of our trees; I could go outside and check the name of the trees on the tags hanging from them, but, well, y'know. It's a bit of effort. I also went for a morning run to the harbour and there I saw a couple of pelicans. On my way back up through the gully I nearly stepped on a blue tongued lizard that leisurely wandered across my path. But what I still have not seen since returning is my favourite not-owl, a tawny frogmouth.
