mental weather

Despite having a three day weekend I am going to end up with less time to myself than I have on a normal weekend. Such, I guess, is having a reasonable size family that I've married into and a house and garden that need upkeeping. The two meet where I am crap at practical stuff and therefore Mike or Adam come over to help me out. Makes me feel like a kid learning how to do stuff, but I defend myself by claiming to be more academic. Ahem. Today was dripping taps, loose roof tiles and leaf filled gutters. It was damn hot this morning when I headed up to the roof to clean the gutters. Then an hour or so later it was relatively cool. Adam called and spoke to Mike (bottom of ladder) saying I (top of ladder) was mad because it was 34degrees. And where he lives it was. At 11.25. By 13.00 it was 22degrees. And that was not the biggest drop. Mental temperature change in a short space of time. Windy, too. But it made this afternoon's run nicer than yesterdays trot through the gutter - with belly far too full - in the late afternoon heat. Damn nearly twisted my ankle on a rock; a lower leg muscle that aches like hell today saved the ankle.

The other thing that has occupied plenty of my time is little Rumpole. A sweet little thing with the ladies, including Lucy the 34kg red cattle dog cross from next door, he has spent this weekend nipping and dominating Oscar the labradoodle. Annoying yet quite entertaining, watching a 12wk old puppy playing big-man-on-campus. Glad Oscar has gone home though, I need a rest. To be expected from a male Cocker Spaniel though. Wonder if he'll be as cocky without his nuts, eh?
