progression of a cold

Thought I'd have a go at tracking how my cold has progressed and continues. Dunno why, could turn out to be a very dull post. Sunday morning and I felt fine. At the end of my dive I had pressure build - nothing over the top - in my right ear. Did not think much of it, but with hindsight I am implicating that in the coming grot. Before hat I was tiredish, put that down to the running, and did not feel a cold approaching.

Sunday afternoon I had a run. Throat felt a little tickly, but again thought nothing of it.

Monday felt OK, cycled to and from work and ran in the evening. Throat felt odd where it meets the nasal tubes. Felt a bit like I had a pistacio stuck there, or like the chunk that always gets caught when you throw up. The run was OK. Gargled some salt water before heading to bed, figuring I could nip a sore throat in the bud. Very tired; took my book to bed and read about three words before passing out with the light on.

Tuesday morning and I felt like crap. Sore throat, a real hot and nasty one. I'd had an iffy nights sleep - Sal had decamped to the sofa at one point in the night - and was running a temp. Felt just about OK to go to work and get paid; if I was a full timer it would have been a sick day. Nose a little runny, but clear goop. Had an ache in the right jaw-up-side-of-face. At lunchtime I could clear my ears and thought that was a good sign. Low humming noise in my ears (well, my whole head) and still running a temp. Had been on the soluble asprin, felt less than fine but OK. Coughing a throaty cough infrequently.

Tuesday evening and things started to go down hill rapidly. A few tight, hot, painful chesty coughs and I was running a temp while feeling cold and sweating. Should just have used the word fever. The formerly clear nose goop had migrated to my chest and turned green. My teeth felt loose, if you know what I mean. Moving from standing or sitting (upright) to laying down moved the gunk and triggered coughing. More gargled salt water and I headed to bed at around 10. Nose was clear but right nostril felt a bit too clear, breathing through it a little unpleasant.

I woke up at 11, coughed a bit and hunted for the mosquito that was in the room with me. Bastard thing. Nodded back off, awoke again at 00:15, sweaty and blocked up in my formerly clear right nostril. The mosquitto was still there and every so often, as I dozed, I thought I heard and then felt it land on my face. I slapped myself about the head and face and failed to kill it.

I woke up again at around 3, 5 and finally 6 when Sal's alarm went off. Each time I awoke I was sweaty and bunged up, had a cough - very unpleasant - and nodded back off again. The bastard mosqitto had bitten me a few times. Just after midnight I'd found a large swollen bite on my left arm and whenever I awoke I had an irritating itch in the small finger on my left hand. I'd had the sheet and duvet pulled up most of the night so figure the little finger was about the only option for mozzie. Not that this has anything to do with the cold.

So Wednesday morning and I'm not going to work. Temp is up, nose clearish but loads of green gunk on my chest and coughing is rather painful. I can't clear my ears.

This is, pretty much, the way all of my colds progress. Ho-hum. Time for a nap.

OK, so I took Sal to work this morning, came home and at about 9 fell back asleep on the sofa. I tried to read my book, got through about 4 pages and nodded off. I woke up at about 11, had a couple of slices of toast and nodded back off again. I awoke again at about 3:15. Quite a lot of sleep, though not all of it deep as I'd heard and ignored a few calls on my phone. Rumpole, pleased to have my company all day, must be very disappointed with the quality of that company. Still coughing a bit and bringing up loads of green gunk, but the red hot tightnes has gone. Temperature still up and plenty of pressure around my right nostril/sinus, presumably due to aforementioned gunk.

Wednesday evening was uneventful. Temp still up but not the hacking cough and h green stuff was moving quite freely. I had an OK nights slep, free from too much coughing and from any mosquitos. Sal started the night on the sofa, made her way to bed and i think moved back to the sofa after catching a whiff of my breath but was in bed when I awoke at around 05:30. I moved, shifted gunk, had a cough but felt a good enough to go to work. My head feels rather full an I'll be investing in Sinutab to deal with that. Temp still up and still coughing occasionally. On the mend, methinks.
