sharks sharks and more sharks

Up early and ready for JCJ to come and pick me up for this week's dive, I checked the weather - conditions read well - and took a look at a cracking Bondi webcam, one of the best cams I've found and a great one for checking the size of the seas outside of the heads. Surf looked to be up so I figured we'd shelter from the south though when I looked again to show JCJ the cam the surf had died down. We decided to head back to Fairy Bower to see if we could find the sharks and to stay out of the Harbour because of the remote chance of bumping into the body of a missing 14yo girl. We had a brunch appointment at 10:30, so at arounf 7:30 we headed off for what turned out to be a borderline spectacular dive.

Post dive we headed back to Wharfies and to meet with Susan and another couple of friends who I'll not name because of what is to come. Not a huge deal, but medical. Over brunch (I had the Jonathon with added bacon and two large caps) I discover that one of my friends is possibly on the way to becoming diabetic because of the cazy way their body handles glucose and insulin. Bad news, but good to know as lifestyle change will help and is. But this is the bit I need to think about; part of the diet change is to eat according to the glycemic index; high bad, low good. But as the conversation went on I got the distinct impression that by mixing foods my mate could play with the GI rating and make something bad become part of a good meal. This seems to me a bit like saying having a half a bottle of vodka is not so bad if you have it with two litres of orange juice instead of straight. Makes me wonder whether the GI of a meal is all relative or the G bit is absolute. I mean half a bottle of vodka is half a bottle of vodka, no matter how much mixer there is in it. Seems this is glycemic load. I'll leave the science to the endocrinologists.

The afternoon passed quietly and after a reasonable time jad passed post-dive I headed out for a repeat of yesterday's run to the other side of the Bridge and back. I did 50mins and then walked tha last bit, my left big toe feeling a little hot and I wanted to protect it. I ran the Bridge fairly quickly, getting to the other side in a little over 30mins (from home) and then the return run over the span was 5:46 and I was happy with that.

On the way over I had another fantastic sunset moment. The skies were clear and to the west the sun, firey orange was dipping below the horizon. To the east an almost full moon was already up and the horizon had a few pink-tinged fluffy clouds to add some interest. The temperature was great for running; the humidity has passed (for a while.) The fantastic sunset moment lasted only a few minutes, maybe even less because when I looked again towards the west the sun was down. The moon still looked way-cool though.
