one small step

Today wa saw definite signs the boys are getting it. We do a pre-dawn walkies-start as it gets light at a bit before 06:00 already; where are my long summer days? I walk at quite a pace and typically, now I walk Rowlf and Rumpole together, the pattern is a few good yards then a bit of a left-side-right-side tug-o-war as one then the other picks the pace up, gets a quick jerk on their lead and allows the other one to do the same. Rinse and repeat. It's an arse...but must be good for the shoulders and my core stability.

But lo, today things were different. For a solid twenty minutes in the middle of the walk, and for plenty of the ten or so minutes either side of the middle, the boys simply walked along nicely, Rowlf to the left and Rumpole to the right. But wait, there's more. For a couple of hundred yards I dropped Rowlf's short lead and he simply kept walking along to heal...technically still on a lead...but with no owner attached to the other end...no need for instruction. And before I get the dog-cops on my case, this was on a footpath away from any roads. So there. Rumpole trotted along at the end of his slack lead. Later, a quick 'pip-pip' as we appraoched roads to be crossed and the boys slowed, stopped, sat.

Cesaer Milan, I'm comin' t'get ya'!

And yes, of course I realise they'll be utter bastards again tonight.
