afternoon delight

Not a fan of bra shopping (draw your own conclusions, read between your own lines, make up your own jokes etc) I headed for a cafe for two breakfasts and a read of the weekend edition of the Sydney morning Herald. Obviously not all of it, that would take a lifetime. A couple of observations.

In the time it took me to eat two breakfasts in a small cafe a table of three young girls drank nothing but tap water. They finished their food - one of them had some yogurt in front of her - as I arrived. If I were the owner I'd no be happy. How do people do that? I'll sit post-feed for a short while, but hog a table for over an hour on tap water? Rude, selfish, ignorant or a bit of A, B and C? Not sure, but does not bode well for the future...

Thought two is on cultural differences. I may be wrong, but I think there is a difference between the Asian and European approach to running a cafe. The Asian way is rather impersonal; you go in, order your food, it arrives, you eat, pay and leave. Little to no interaction with the staff. The European model seems more personal. You still do all of the above, but there is a often a bit of chat, if only how-are-you-how-was-everything-have-you-got-anything-planned-for-the-day? I prefer the latter, maybe because it is what I am used to. But the upshot is that I tend towards cafes run by Aussies of European descent (and yes, yes, yes, I judge this on book-cover-looks.) Am I fueling societal division? Let's face it, I am a middle-aged English skinhead (well, not a real skinhead; I'm balding so have limited hair options...) I think that is PC mumbo-jumbo. I eat where I want to eat and that's it.

Breakfast finished I hlped Sal with some shopping and we then headed to North Head to look at some big seas and hunt another cache (I am such a geek!) which I may detail later. I need to go to bed now.
