On Saturday I went to a parenting class with Sal. Well, not so much parenting as labour-and-birth-class which, let's face it, is a bit superfluous as those parts are just going to happen with an overwhelming inevitability. My bit is to do as I'm told and make her as comfortable as possible which, let's face it again, could be a struggle.
Part of the day was a tour of the hospital in which they showed us the bed in the birthing suite. It had loads of controls that enable you to angle it up and down and in and out to create a comfortable base. For a moment - a brief but poignant moment - I saw in that bed the last such bed I'd seen.
The moment passed.
