Random Acts of Kindness
Tonight at 6:30pm on Channel Nine I could but won't watch the latest reality show to be aired on Australian free-to-air TV. Random Acts of Kindness. According to my TV guide:
Australia's unsung heroes are rewarded for their generosity when Karl Stefanovic, Scott Cam and Simmone Jade Mackinnon help make their dreams come true.
Imagine if it was truly random, walking up to someone on the street and presenting them with a new car. Now the competition in the media does a background check on said random person and finds out they have a rather dubious past and their present life is littered with drug use, ripping people off, etc. It would make for interesting viewing as the TV networks slug it out.
Background schmackground! Randome rocks! Racist bogans, dangerously violent sports stars and Melbourne gangsters are all getting their moments of fame and fortune. Commercial TV channels love it. As long as those advertsing revenues keep rolling in. Air a controversy - sell ad space. Report on the controversy - sell more ad space. Right to reply - more ad space. Bring out the book. ker-ching! In fact, rewarding really nice people is such dull TV (I guess; I don't watch it) that there cannot be a lot of money to be made,
How about Random Acts of Nastiness? This week a sugary sweet old lady who has looked after sick cats for the past 50 years is turfed out of her flat and has her benefits cut off for keeping pets without council approval! Followed by the news and Snakes on a Plane.

Not only is it not random, but the heroes are manifestly sung!
