I received an email from the JobSpeed website this morning that encouraged me to visit said website and view their new, updated salary survey. I like to make sure I am earning my fair wedge, so I went over to see what the market thinks of me. Now this is a survey, right? So that means you have surveyed the market, right? These are not simply numbers you have plucked out of your arse, right? OK, good.
By trade I am a DBA and I ply my trade in Sydney, New South Wales. If I were relatively new to my craft, with up to three years experience, I would command a salary of 60-70k, which sounds about right. However, if I were to move to Queensland, which is a basically a coal mine, two sugar cane plantations and a casino, I would command a salary of 80-95k. I would probably get a nice sun tan too. But wait, there's more! The Australian Capital Territory is a field in New South Wales that houses the nation's capital. Sydney and Melbourne couldn't stop squabbling about who had the biggest dick, so Canberra was invented and placed in the middle of nowhere. The ACT it is a renovated cattle station full of politicians, students and prostitutes. Canberra itself has a sign that lets you know you are in the city centre because you would not otherwise recognise it as such. It is regarded as somewhat dull, despite the people who live there desperately trying to convince us otherwise. That said, with your "up to three years" as a DBA you would command a salary of 100-120k. No sun tan, but a ton of cash, in fact more than a DBA with more experience. Makes you think.
It actually makes me think their survey is a bigger pile of shit than most. Wonder what salary a proof-reader commands?
