AJ is a bit snotty at the moment and it is bastard humid overnight so I guess it came as no surprise that she woke up a few times last night. First time was pretty easy to handle, just called out telling her to go back to sleep and she did. Next time she asked for milk, I offered water, she had a drink and went back to sleep. At about 4 she had some milk and kinda nodded off for a while. The 4am milk sometimes buys another hour of proper sleep. Awake again at about half past 4. I told her she could come out and sleep on the lounge floor next to me, which usually gets me through to 5 in relative peace. Not today.
"Get up?"
"No, sleep"
"poo..."
"let me smell...no poo...go back to sleep"
"wet"
"let's take a look...you're not wet...go back to sleep"
The she took her PJ top off. Sort of. She hooked one arm above her head. Didn't look too comfortable to me.
"Do you want your singlet off?"
"singlet off!"
I took her PJ singlet off.
"wwwaaaaahhhhHHH! SINGLET!"
"You said singlet off!"
I dumped her back in bed, suggested she might like to try sleeping for a while. She wasn't keen and cranked waaaaahhhHHH volume up a bit.
"If you'll be quiet and sleep you can come back out into the lounge"
"lounge" came the sheepish reply
She trotted back in.
Then trotted back to her bedroom to get her blanket. The one with the cupcakes. That's is THE blanket at the moment.
She came back to the lounge.
Then went back to her bedroom to get bear-bear. I don't remember why this particular bear was named bear-bear, but there-there you go.
She sat on her lounge-stroke-bed.
She laid down.
She sat up.
"snotty"
The squelching sound as she rubbed a hand over her face suggested that snotty was far closer to the truth than wet and poo had been.
It was 4:55. Sod it.
"do you want to get up?"
"Get up, light on."
That's a yes then.
And so the day started. Optus had switched off the internet that is wired into my house - they do that randomly - but not the wireless internet to my phone, so I checked the weather on my phone and discovered it was currently 22 degrees and 72% humidity. T-shirts and shorts all round then. We headed out with the dogs.
It was a quick handover after the walk because, with no internet connection, I needed to get into work by 8am to get some stuff done that I would otherwise have done from home. Not that this made any difference to the route choice. Straight to work again, Groundhog Daying yesterday's run, only without putting the foot down on the bridge. The bridge was done in a far more social 6:43, 55sec slower than yesterday. Very little else to say about the run in, spent most of it considering what miles I'd go for once the last weekend of Janathon gets here.
Hurty update, as I've not had the traditional moan yet, and I know how much you love to read my whinging. Finished yesterday with right thigh, just above the knee a bit tight and I put that down to the fast bridge. Oh, and I forgot to mention that yesterday someone had the temerity to try and overtake me as I came through the Domain at lunchtime, and I couldn't have that now, could I? So there were a couple of semi-sprints yesterday. Anyway, last night until AJ came into the lounge I was sleeping with my feet raised on her lounge thing, and that seems to have sorted the new tightness out. So, in summary, this morning I am back to just everything aching.
Something a little different at lunchtime today. I'm going to run over to the Balmain East ferry wharf and then - so long as I don't miss it - jump on the ferry for a 10min cool-down journey back across the Harbour. Sitting here that seems like a great plan. Let's see how good it turns out to be.
I leave and I return.
That was a little more challenging than I expected. I set out at around 13:15 having checked the ferry timetable. Ferry was due to leave at 14:04 so I wanted to be there by 2pm. I'd mapped the run and thought it was around 6-and-a-bit-km. Of course I didn't take a map with me or load a GPX track and I didn't stick to the planned route. I'm clever like that. In the end, after only one stop to see where I was and a couple of pauses to ask people if I was going the right way, I made it to the wharf just before 2pm, distance just over 8km. Good job I had picked the pace up a little. At 27degrees with 60% humidity and clear skies I, naturally, worked up a sweat. Balmain is quite hilly. Should have remembered that. I had time to ring my singlet out and click off a few tourist snaps before the ferry arrived. I stood at the back corner of the ferry for the 10minute trip back to King Street from Balmain, hoping I'd not offend the other passengers. Maybe I managed to offend the staff, because no one asked me for any money. So, a nice change and a free harbour cruise. And now 6 days left.

Not jealous of the early morning call, but the rest sounds pretty awesome...
Well done on all the miles, hope the legs hold out!
I remember those early morning conversation, although you sound much less grumpy than I would have been!
Like the idea of running and taking the ferry back, now that I'm jealous of.
You've run really well, just a few more days now. I remember snotty nosed toddlers - it dries like varnish. Not a good time to carry them in a back pack carrier when 'the snotty fingers' start exploring the back of your hair and ears, mouth etc. But they're fun, make the most of those years ;-) I envy your runs, pure envy - so there! You're doing good.
