N-n-n-n-nineteen kilometres this morning, and that is as far as the Paul Hardcastle references will go. Was thinking about that lyric 'destruction!, of men in their prime...' but I'm hardly in my prime. Unsurprisingly Sal did not last three days in Brisbane and flew out yesterday before the worst of the flooding was due to hit. That meant she would be able to take AJ to day care and I'd be able to add a few more miles to my total. Little monkey was WAY better last night. She woke just once, at a little after 1am and Sal got up to give her a drink. I stirred, but didn't move much from my spot in the relative cool of the lounge. AJ slept until 4;15, I gave her some milk and she wanted to get up. I said no, but she could come and kip on the lounge floor with me, which she did, managing to wedge her head under the sofa. Must have been far more comfortable than it looked, because she stayed that way until 5:15 when she woke up for good as I stirred. Any later than that and the dogs would have missed out, but as it was we stayed on schedule as I reclaimed a few minutes by deciding that I didn't need a shave today when clearly I do.
Back from the dog walk and I'd worked up a decent sweat so guzzled some water, made some homebrew gatorade, pulled on the shiny new Asics and headed out. I finished yesterday on 181km so my goal was another 19 to take me to a nice round 200. With a bit more sleep under my belt I had a bit more spring in my step as I jogged off, Sal driving slowly along the road so AJ could wave at me and shout 'daddy jogger!' Damn cute. Not much to report on the run itself. It was very similar to the 21 I did last Thursday; straight to the office, drop off my backpack and then head around one loop of the Sydney Half course, adding a little to make up the total. Started to feel the pace at around 13km, then at 14.5km there was something else I told myself I should blog and have forgottena all about. As I approached the end of the half course I realised the return along Kent St would not give me enough, so I took a diverseion to head along the waters edge, only to find my way blocked because a cruise ship is in. Nevermind, another quick diversion and then I managed to get to the waters edge for the last 500m or so. Stopped the clock to see that I'd averaged 4.57, (ever so) slightly quicker that yesterday.
So it has been a funny start to the working week. Planned an easy 30km and have done a somewhat more challenging 44. I find myself chasing numbers in the week as the routes open to me are limited and I am going over old favourites. Looking forward to the weekend when I can try something a little different...maybe.

Your fatherly duties and patience are almost as impressive as your running persistence. Full marks.
