that was the week that was

Going in to Janathon I thought I would be averaging 10km per day and that, I thought, would be pretty good going. I was planning something like this each week: A long weekend run in the low-to-mid 20s, to and from work twice for another 30k, a 10k and a 6km cross train at lunch which would leave a couple of light days to recover and guard against injury. When
training for a marathon I usually top out under 80km, that in a big week, and I don't do big weeks back to back. I'll do a weekend 30 and at lunch times in the week a couple of 10s and a couple of 9s. I'll have a cuople of run free days.

I just clocked up my 120km for the first week of Janathon. Week one, at least half as much again as I have even run in a week. I'm quite surprised at that. Although not easy I have survived what, had you asked me a week ago, I would have said was too much. I've still walked the dogs, still got up 3 times each night to AJ and still been up at or before 5 each day. I am, of course, buggered. And I'm not even a quarter of the way through.

Today was a struggle. I did take the piss a bit at work, deciding that I wanted to finish the week on 120km but not wanting to do any more than one run, so lunchtime today was 13km. I picked my stock 10 and added a trip over the Anzac Bridge and back which, as I trudged over the bridge I realised was a bit silly when I could have added a flat trot around Darling Harbour. Today was damn hot and humid, the rain in the morning making sure of that. I suffered what I call "finish line fatigue" as I came back over Pyrmont Bridge. I knew I had only a bout 1500m left and felt uber-sluggish. That said, once I completed the run I felt almost elated to have reached my only-just-set week one goal. Checking the scores on the doors I see I have travelled 149km on foot in a week. Pardon my French, but fucking hell! Despite sounding competitive, I really am only competitive with myself...but it is nice to see my name atop the ladder when I choose distance and all sports. Have to give props to LocalAdventures at 135k and Jenks at 127k of running with a day to go until their weeks are complete. Great work.

Not sure how I'll go next week. I reckon Jenks and LocalAdventures will hammer the miles this weekend, whereas I have a 90th birthday to go to on Saturday, dogs to walk and grass damn near head high to attack with the mower (ok, not quite that high...) Will try to go large on Sunday. Next week rain arrives in Sydney and Sal leaves for three days in Brisbane. I am on sole parent duty to the little monkey. Staying in contention set to become quite challenging.

But I'm up fr a challenge, after all, that's what it's all about.

i was beginning to think you were super human! but hearing you're feeling the pain at 120km makes me think you're super sonic!

nice work, realy impressed with your dedication, i also thought you must not have a job but you're proving me wrong there too.

Angela - not running so strong :(

@chris oh yes, my monkey can run all over the place!
@angela yesterday as tough. Wondering if I can run and sleep at the same time? Neat trick if I can (hahaha!)
@onefotoutthedoor I'm actually surprised at how the week has gone, felt for sure I'd blow up. Feel like I'm a bit of an experiment at the moment!
