Funny old world innit? On our daily walks AJ and I pass trees and bushes and flowers and I make sure I point them out and tell her the names, all of which she remembers and now she points them out to me as often as I point them out to her. She sometimes wants to take flowers and I make sure we grab ones that have recently fallen, explaining to her that we leave the flowers on the tree or the petals on the roses so other people can enjoy them, just as we do. Stop, admire, have a sniff and move on. Alex understands and is happy with that.
Compare and contrast with the kids out front at the moment. They are ripping sodding great branches from our neighbour's frangipani tree and then shredding the ripped branches by smashing them against power poles. And these are not the neighbour's kids. Bits of branch, flowers, leaves - all over the place. To be fair to the kids, the parents are out back of our neighbours' house, leaving the kids to their own Lord-of-the-Flies-devices, so I'm not too surprised. They'd been playing in the road when we got back from the cafe earlier; Sal told them to be careful, showing at least as much concern as...well, you get it.
Now I'm still new to this parenting lark, and I'd be the last person to suggest that my way is better than anyone else's. However...
