my dog is suffering with tonsillitis

Suffering with or suffering from? Don't know.

Anyway my dog, Rowlf the Irish Water Spaniel, has fallen victim to my eldest daughters tonsillitis. Sort of. I was at home looking after AJ today which meant running to, from or at work was out of the question. Something had to give, and it was Rowlf's walk. Rather than take the big lump out this morning I did one of my stock runs, the 11km Manly Beach loop. I was home before Sal went to work. I could have walked Rowlf this evening, once Sal was back from work and the kids on their way to bed, but I did one of my stock runs, the 11km Manly Beach loop. I assure you I have not loaded the same run twice, rather I ran it twice. It was another sticky day today, so I'm sure Rowlf, who spent the day mooching and sleeping, will forgive me his walk-free day.

The evening effort was far better than the morning slog; less humid and with more space between me and the final four beers-of-Christmas I relieved the fridge of last night. In fact this evening was surprisingly good. The 4:38 pace is a little way off of my best but far better than the morning's 4:53. Glad to have got the miles in; it could have been a lean day today. Might be a repeat performance tomorrow as AJ looks worse at the end of today than she did at the beginning and has a forehead you could fry eggs on. She's not had a good day.

In personal health and fitness news -  my legs feel better. They're still not happy going downhill, but they are far less unhappy than they have been. Pleased about that.

Of course the high point of my day was this morning's FA Cup tie between AFC Wimbledon and Liverpool. I'm Wimbledon through-and-through and despite the 1-2 home defeat and consequent cup exit I thought it was a damn fine performance. Seventy two league places below the Mickey-mousers and we could have nicked it. Come back next year once Gerrard has left for Hollywood and we'll see what happens.

What else to whitter on about...ah, shoes. My new Mizuno Wave Inspires don't vent as well as my not-quite-so new Mizuno Wave Riders. I don't think they'll hold on to the sweat like the trusty Asics (Cumulus and Nimbus) but they'll come close and probably have to live in the garden. I did a particularly large month a couple of years ago almost entirely in a pair of Nike Pegasus. They took the beating incredibly well but fucking reeked at the end of it. And my dog ate one of them. The main reason I have switched to the Mizunos is that they're cheap. There are neutral shoes, shoes for pronators, racing flats and so on; you can find a shoe that meets just about any criteria. My criteria is costs about fifty quid and a few other people seem to say they're OK. Apparently another pair arrived at work today; don't think I've got any more coming.

OK, that's it for now. Still some Christmas cake left that won't eat itself.

Janathon total - 134km.
