Postponed moan

I was going to set off on a rant about heat and humidity.

I woke this morning feeling like I'd spent the night trying to breath treacle and started the day sweating with the effort of sitting still and breathing. Hello January! I took Rowlf for a swim, came home and went out for a swim with the little ladies (now aged three-and-a-half and six-in-two-weeks) and mum (age redacted.) The swim was a good idea; it allowed me to cool-down before setting off for a run. There are a lot of people who will warm up before heading off for a run. That's not Sydney in January.

The ladies drove home and I ran via Queenscliff and Manly Beach. Yes, it's a tough life. It was pretty tough out there today. About 28degrees and humidity still sitting at around 70% gave an apparent temperature of a little over 30. I picked the run because I could start with a decent downhill, do a little up-and-over hill and then hit a flat section. It was a great plan, spoilt only by the fact I started with legs that felt they had already done about 30km really did not want any downhill. So I did struggle a bit and was glad to get home, before the ladies who had stopped to do a little shopping. In air conditioned comfort. They came home to find dad standing on the deck in a puddle that had once been the tits, arse and nuts he had just sweat-off.

And I'll stop the moaning right there. Because tomorrow is supposed to be hotter. Can't wait. A positive though - the Mizuno Wave Riders I've been wearing have far better venting than the trusty old Asics and don't stink half as much.

In local fauna news, I spotted another two Blue Tongued Lizards today. One on a footpath about 500m from home and the second under my deck. Rowlf started barking his arse off while he was under the deck, which was odd; he'll sometimes bark if someone approaches the gate, but he's usually pretty placid. Barking under the deck? I took a look and found him engaged in a Mexican-standoff with the lizard. He was all barks, the lizard all hisses. Sal temped Rowlf out from under the deck with bacon while I failed to catch the lizard, who we think escaped next door. So that was exciting.

And I repaired some dripping tips, under the watchful gaze of my father in law - who is as good as that sort of thing as I am shite.

Right, time to stop stroking myself and get re-hydrating.

January total - 66.6km according to Strava and 67km if you look at runningfreeonline.
