nautical but not nice

As I cycled over the bridge this morning I noticed a ferry pulled up (moored in nautical speak) at the end of Pier 1 where there is no ferry stop. Odd, but I thought little more of it. I was more interested - at the time - in three kayaks that were just to the west (inside) of the bridge, a little over half was in what looked like a crossing of the Harbour from north to south. Very game I thought; the harbour is a very busy shipping lane and not one I'd want to be out in without the protection of a decent sized vessel.

Fast forward to whitewash o clock and I discover why the ferry was there. It was rescuing a 60yr old bloke who had lost a leg and then had a heart attack when crushed by a jetcat. See, I knew it wasn't safe, and there you have it. Good job it wasn't the ms Statendam, moored at Circular Quay this morn, that hit him.
