I was pondering yesterday. I need a to-do list to let me know what I should do each week - and then a log of what I have done. Not at work - though that may follow - but in general. I'm a creature of habit, so if I make a list (that I give a shit about) there is a good chance I'll do what is on it. So here goes my draft list of inclusions that will, I am sure, display just how much of a selfish bastard I am.
Spend 10hours out of the house and garden with Rowlf.
Dogs need exercise and energetic dogs need plenty. Ten hours is a little under 90minutes per day that will, typically, be an hour or so per work day and two or so at weekends. It does not have to be all walking and running and swimming and jumping, it can be sitting at a cafe or non-specific dog walking like taking a DVD back and dragging him along too.
Once in the water and once in the gym
The gym bit should be easy and I'm doing that already. The water bit can be a dive or a snorkel or a swim and the swim, though I'd prefer the ocean, can be in a pool. I am wet far too infrequntly. Hey, I may even start surfing. Great list item to add as we go into winter...
Make at least one meal for Sal
Not one to get carried away about because a sandwhich can be a meal. But I need to hit this one.
Spend one evening doing "something" with Sal if she wants to do "something"
And here is the first massive caveat. Dancing and cooking classes are specifically excluded, as are watching movies with a plotline based largely on kids, music, dancing and especially any combination of those. My list, my rules.
Read a book and a newspaper
No need to finish a book per week, but I should have a book on the go and I should read some of it at least once each week. Newspaper can be online, but should be a proper read and not a scan for the sports scores and whose shagging who.
One long run, one fast run, one interval run
The long run must be over an hour and the interval run is, in my world and in this context a run that is not a simple one pace plod. So it might be fartlek, it might be hillwork or steps. This one should be dead easy to achieve to and from work and in my lunch breaks.
On yer bike
Ride my bike at least once a week
Log the lot
Log my activity and explain where I missed any target
Phone a friend
Too often to I go for too long without being in touch with friends. For phone you can read phone/email/visit.
