The Chronicles of Narnia

OK, so I am a grumpy old bastard. I've said it. But surely I am not the only one who thinks that a story that...hold on...spoiler alert...that has Santa Claus arming children so they can go on to fight a heroic war against a great evil sends a good message to our 21st century children? Not far from there to the war on terror...hold on, wikipedia has some interesting stuff under theme and allegory...theology! I knew that'd be at he heart of it. Fighting is good! Evil exists! Bah humbug.

Hold on...the wonders of the internet and where your browsing takes you has led me to what is one of my favourite quotes. Penned by George Bernard Shaw, the final line of Back to Methusala
Of Life only is there no end; and though of its million starry mansions many are empty and many still unbuilt, and though its vast domain is as yet unbearably desert, my seed shall one day fill it and master its matter to its uttermost confines. And for what may be beyond, the eyesight of Lilith is too short. It is enough that there is a beyond.
How great is that? And I never realised Lilith was supposed to be Adam's first wife. So the quote would not exist without religion? Oh the turmoil! New subject...
