Jeans for Genes Day. Good stuff. Raising money for medical research into making kids better. But why the Jeans for Genes day merchandise? How about we don't produce shit people don't actually need? Any money saved gets donated to the charity. It's a win win situation. More money to charity, fewer bits of the planet wasted.
Give money to charity. It's the right thing to do. But say no to the sticker, the rosette, the badge. Don't buy stuff you don't need. Be happy in he knowledge that you did the right thing. You don't need to shout about it.
Give money to charity and be environmentally wasteful at the same time? Silly isn't it? Tough though it may be, try and keep all the right things in mind at the same time.
Use the same principle whenever presented with the opportunity to get some shit you don't need. If you don't need it, don't take it. Free papers handed out in the street, free sample sachets of soup, the second of a two for one when you only need one, an upsize. Just say no. Even if it is apparently for charity.
Unfortunately so much charity is less about the charity and more about the "charitable." Wear the badge, the hat, the fleece. Look at how good I am! Not only do I give money to charity but I provide employment for Asian kids! Think...
