I've seen a couple of TV shows about THE HORRORS! of modern food. Because it makes for great TV, for our viewing pleasure, we are presented with the plight of the humble chicken.

For instance…any chicks that are not perfect are discarded. The humane way to kill chicks (humane! We’re talking about chickens and we speak of humanity!) is to pop them into a sealed container and gradually – well, actually quite quickly – increase the amount of carbon dioxide in their breathing gas. They become sleepy and they die.

The audience gasp! That is TERRIBLE! You are killing those chicks!

But hold on…we kill animals by raising the CO2 content of their breathing gas…and we are horrified because some fucking chickens are dying!
