leaving the ton

If you don't fancy reading a bit of a moan then maybe look in again tomorrow...It was probably a mistake to take a look at a website that tells you the temperature equivalent for humid conditions. Turns out that at 05:50 it was a shade under 30 degrees (21 degrees and 96% humidity) and when I left for today's trot it was a shade over 30 (23 and 86.) I'd slept on the floor in the lounge, where we have a small aircon unit, and woke up feeling pretty clammy still. On the plus side, Alex had slept through until about 4:30, so for the first time in a couple of weeks I did get an unbroken sleep. Left foot had a weird ache. Psychosomatic, I assured myself.

Plan A was a run I've wanted to do for ages and have yet to get around to, running from Sydney Harbour's south to north head. I really must find out how far apart they are across the heads. On foot it is about 32k. Enough of that, I needed a Plan B as the prospect the distance of Plan A while feeling bleugh was intimidating enough, let alone the climb at then end, to north head, and to finish a long way from a bus stop didn't seem smart. Plan B was almost "bollocks to it" but I decided to man-up and head out on one of my stock long(ish) runs, a 25km loop that takes me over 6 of Sydney's bridges - the Harbour Bridge, Pyrmont, Anzac, Iron Cove, Gladeseville and that others I don't know the names of. Although a bit hilly the start is more descent than ascent, and being a loop I'd end up at home, not on top of a bloody cliff miles from home.

The run starts along a local bike path and at a little under 3k I stopped and seriously considered diverting to a 6km loop home, I was sweating like a racehorse and felt very ordinary. Jenks and LocalAdventures were streets ahead of me, so all thoughts of finishing on top of the ladder were long gone. Then I got a grip and carried on. The run was as I'd expected, tough. The threat of showers was only a threat, which pissed me off a bit as I'd have liked a soaking in something other than sweat.

On top of the Gladeseville Bridge I stopped to take brief advantage of the coolest breeze in Sydney and then headed on. I must have felt a little better for a while as I did entertain the thought of clocking up my ton. The feeling passed and I still have yet to join the 100mile club; that is for tomorrow. It was a bit stop start in the late stages. I stopped to pat a dog and chat with he owners a couple of times, loitered at red lights and so on. As soon as I hit 25k I stopped, the last couple of hundred metres seeming to take f-o-r-e-v-e-r. Again, I felt pretty much Ok as soon as I stopped - but no better than OK. Slept a couple of hours on the floor in the early afternoon while Sal and AJ were out, but still feel clammy and bleugh.

Right now it is 25 degrees and 75% humidity. That feels like 32 degrees. We really do need a southerly change to blow through Sydney...

Thought of the day. This morning when I first checked the weather I decided the dogs could go without a walk. Yep, I'd not walk my dog in that weather. I'll go for a run instead. I must be off my fucking rocker. Anyway, next three days should be light, what with Sal in Brisbane and me on sole-aparent duty. No real option but run to the office from daycare. I read somewhere that leaving a 2yr old at home by herself with a couple of dogs was bad parenting. Who'dve thought?

Man up. Good expression. I think you should man up. Nowhere near enough K's on the clock....appalling effort. Joking of course. Funny, I am commenting solely on the 2 Aussie (well, not quite, in your case) Janathoners, and you both posted at exactly the same time tonight. Very different posts though. Most enjoyable anyhow...both of you.

Wow it is hot where you are, London has its first sunny blue sky (but cold) day this year, its been ice that has been the problem for many in the UK, right now, I'd love a bit of hot n sweaty running. In any event, respect to you - you are going great guns, keep up the great work - cheers Sean

I'm completely speechless at the mileage at the top of the Janathon table - it's incredible.
