last Friday of June

The big five-oh. Oh.
A few milestones today. I clocked up my 500th kilometre of June. I passed my Janathon total at 07:55 - and on the 24th day of the month. No more Friday's left in June - huzzah! Got to be pleased with that. And a funny thing happened on the way to the office. The day started, as most, with me hobbling off down the hill until I got a grip and just got on with it. But when I passed my Jan total I suddenly felt great. My legs stopped aching, I had a spring in my step and I lengthened my stride. I sped up. I SPED UP! I can't remember the last time I sped up. I felt as if I was movnig far mroe quickly than I had for ages. I made it over the bridge in 6:52, which is not especially quick, but pleasingly quicker. I think I said it towards the end of Janathon - I felt like Rocky-fucking-Balboa! Some chemical stuff must have kicked off in my brain; dopamine, seratonin? Buggered if I know. Good stuff though, and strenghtens my belief that this is all about the mental challenge. It's going to be tough, you're going to ache; do not let that stop you. No being soft; blokes once stood in trenches with their feet rotting while bombs and shit rained down on them and you're moaning about a planter wart. Get real.

Today's commute took me via Cremorne Point. Having abandoned thoughts of speed long ago I have started to stop whenever I see a friendly-looking dog walker with friendly-looking dogs. Only had fail once and that was with two odd looking blokes, each walking a dachshund. Which is odd in itself. They were miserable bastards. Today was all win. One jack russell, a husky, a minature poodle and two border collies provided me with four breathers. Stopping to take a pic at 500km provide another and by the time I got to work I felt fine and had another 14km on the board. Hmmm, thought I, if I knock out my Anzac Bridge 10km at lunch time I will payback the buffer I spent yesterday.

At lunch time I ran out to Anzac Bridge and back. Another lovely day for a run, but you must be getting bored with hearing about this trot. Got back feeling pretty pleased with myself, 24km on the 24th. And now the weekend has landed.

Well done -- that is a fantastic kilometerstone, and what you did in January was pretty bl**dy phenomenal anyway. Congratulations!
