So the weekend came and went and with it we came to Willoughby and went from Randwick. I already don't remember too much about Friday and assume, therefore, that it was a dull day. Work wise that is a safe assumption. We did our final bits at Randwick - take apart the sofa that Mara may have wanted to sit on and remove the modem that she definitely wanted to use (oops.) We then headed over to Willoughby with our new microwave and our clothes. Saw three galahs in the garden and was happy with that. Then went up to the in-laws so we would be ready for an early start on Saturday.
Saturday morning came and we were up, fed and watered and at Avis by 07:30 to collect our 6tonne truck. A 6tonne truck is bloody huge and far bigger than we needed. I thouhgt. I was wrong. I'm glad Mike has greater experience in these things than I do and made the correct call. We headed over to our lockup, where we met Jason woh povided invaluable extra muscle, despite having a hacking cough that suggested h was about to fall over in a heap at any moment. He didn't. The lockup was easy; our stuff was boxed and the truck backed up right to the door. Took u under an hour to get on the road to the in-laws, grab a couple of chairs, boxes and and a double bed then head down to Mara's place, where we collected our furniure and the stuff fom her garage and in doing so filled the back o the truck. Not floor to ciling, but there was some stacking and we filled it front to back, left to right. And we still needed to use Jason's ute for the bikes and box. We got to Willoughby by about 1pm and cracked on with the unloading while Sal and Maureen went and got provisions; burgers and sugar water. We needed to take on some fluids as the temp was in the low 30s and humodity was up. Very stinky. When we had finished the house, that each time sal and I had seen it we'd agreed had looked a little larger, looked very small. Boxes and crap filled every room. Jason, armed with some beers made his way off while Mike and Maureen hung around for a while to help us unpack (well, Maureen wanted to see THE coffee machine.) They drifted off at about five and then Sal flagged a little earlier than me and I soldiered on, finally losing the wil lto unpack anymore at around 21:30. I went to bed knackered.
Still knackered when I got up in the morning I started to unpack. I felt like I imgine someone lost in the desert feels, staggering on towards an unknown destination somewhere out in a hazy future. Enough of that bollocks. There was a kookaburra sitting on our Hills hoist. Does not get a lot more Aussie than that for a Sunday morning. Sal dragged me out for coffe and pancakes then she went shopping - food - and I continud unbpacking. Surreound stereo has one dodgy speaker but the had amp survived being dropped and I therefore had sounds.
While Sal was out, Adam called to kinda invite himself, Muchkin and Maddie over. Good lad, and as he offered first to bring beer, to put into his fridge he'd loaned us, and then offered to bring meet so we could fire up the BBQ I was hardly about to knock him back. And besides, the Greenwoods are always welcome. So with more packing done - in fact most of it - we did our first entertaining at 5:15 on the Sunday. Not a bad effort, nuff respect and a big shout to all the helpers. Adam and I, at one point, parked ourselves in the papasan chairs we have on the front porch and drank champagne. Yes, life is sweet.
Champagne was opened, along with beers, Maddie was her gorgeous self and Sal and I hosted people in OUR HOUSE. They had to bring their own food, drink, gas bottle and cuttlery (buggered if I know where ours is) but that is not the point.
Also saw my first huntsman, or bloody great spider, living as it was in the lid of our bin. I though tit was a dead one so gave the body a little prod - with a bit of cardboard - and the bastard moved. Strangely enough I was not too freaked out. However, if one of them catches me by surprise...shudder.
