happy 75th birthday, happy 73rd birthday

Ghost in the Shell is a fantastic Manga Japanimation movie. Thoroughly recommend it.

Once it was complete we kicked the dog out into the back garden and headed towards the Bridge to help celebrate its 75 birthday, incidentally a day before my dad's 73rd. The bridge was closed to traffic all day Sunday and we could walk over it on the road deck. Tens of thousands of us did, our little group being 6 of them. Of the 6 JCJ and I were by far the slowest; it took us around an hour to do the walk I can run in a little over 6minutes and drive in about 1 I guess. JCJ and I had cameras though, he looked like a US marine with bags of hardware attached all over, I went with the point and press and, of course, the phone.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I thoroughly enjoyed peering over the side and seeing crap that had collected in alleys, seeing where grass was growing through cracks in the tarmac, where paint was peeling, looking through those expansion things and seeing the water a long way below and looking up from under all that metalwork. Damned impressive. Pop over to my flickr site to see some OK pics that do the thing no justice. The Bridge is an incredible structure.

Once over the bridge we headed back over to Cremorne Point on a ferry; is there a better way to travel in Sydney? (answer: No.) The bridge was being lit up in greens and blues and reds and that was also very impressive, though for me somewhat less impressive than the thing itself. There are so many occassions whenthere are lights and fireworks that they don't do a lot for me. Anyway, from Cremorne point we walked (no bus) up through the old 'hood (Neutral bay) for supper at Maisys where, once again, I had the nachos. Ride home, post some pics and that was Sunday finished.

Sunday had started with a near-half-marahton. The weather was overcast and low 20s cool and I despite feeling a bit rough - still shaking the last remnants of the cold - I hit the streets early and got back in 1:37. Not bad I suppose, and worked up an apetite that saw me demolish a bacon and egg sarnie before Sal and I headed out for my second breakfast, little dog in tow.

And that was Sunday.

For completeness and to bring us up to date (though I think I've missed a load of stuff these past few days as each entry has gotten more mundane than the last) today was a day at work. Training in communications technologies, my favourite part being the bit where we were told how to log onto the phone system we were all logged oin to in order to do the course. I didn't mention it at the time...

Other than that, not a lot on over here and I'll finish this typing what I earlier said. happy Birthday dad, you old bastard. Enjoy the shoes.
