back on the tracks

Have to say I was not feeling much like a long run, but I figured that this was my first trail run for a while and as soon as I got off road I'd feel OK. Which was pretty much how it went.

Highlight of the run came early. Had been on the trail for a few minutes when I thought I spotted a large, off-leash, ownerless black dog about 50yards ahead of me. Then it backed up a bit, I saw the huge tail and the clown feet. It was a swamp (or black) wallaby. A good sized animal, it bounced off along the same track where I have previously been outpaced by a turkey. Did not feel as bad this time. I picked the pace up a bit - I was out for a sloooow run - but didn't manage to see it again.

Conditions were good - cool, not too humid - and I felt pretty good. At one point I felt a bit chilled, but I think that was more to do with the new shirt and the North Face shorts that were holding a bit more sweat than I'd like. Think I'll dig out the skanky old kit for the next long run.

I managed to give myself a nice long scrape on the right leg, behind the right knee. That scar goes well with the one from ramming a bike pedal into my right shin in the week. Yesterday my dog catapulted a 2" thick bit of hardwood into my right ankle before jumping his 33kgs down on my right foot. Not been a good week for my right leg. Left one looks lovely though.

Although I didn't run especially quickly I arrived at Spit Bridge in just under two hours. Feeling OK I decided to keep going all the way to Manly along the Spit Bridge to Manly Scenic Walkway. I gave Sal a call and found that she was at Circular Quay with little 'un, so we should arrive at manly at near enough the same time.

Not a lot to say about the rest of the run. As with the earlier parts I displayed to reluctance to walking up the steeper hills or stopping for a brief chat with anyone I found who might give me half an excuse for a breather. Got to Manly, 27km later, in a smidge under three hours. Felt pretty happy with that. Felt happier still when I jumped in the water for a cool down, and even happier again when I got to the Bavarian Beer Cafe on the wharf and destroyed some breakfast.

Nice start to the day; knackered for the rest of it.

Hilarious. You are such an exercise junkie, I can't believe it! You will piss #janathon in. My mate @jogblog will then be forced to post the prizes out to the colony, ha! I like your Twitbio...atheist, hippy, etc...we have much in common, except for the balding. And the exerciseomania (a brisk daily 40 min walk is enough for me!). Looking forward to your Janathon posts.
