Spit Bridge to Manly

Woke up this morning in a foul mood, even by my standards, and Sal was glad to see the back of me as I headed towards Manly. I'd roughly mapped the route and it was roughly the right distance. A couple of reasons for the choice. I would end up by the beach, which is always nice, and hopefully see some solid swell and big surf. And by taking the Spit Bridge to Manly scenic path I would get some lovely views and avoid a lot of traffic. I also thought some trail running, albeit a very tame trail, would make a nice change from pavement pounding.

I faffed about before leaving and also felt cold, which I put down to not eating as much as I should for my mileage. I warmed up pretty soon when I got going. Ran past last night's parking spot to discover we had pared illegally. Arse. To get to the Spit is a fairly standard road plod that takes you pat some massive and massively impressive houses. I picked up a Gatorade, had a pee and left the road.

Once again I was slow but it wasn't bothering me overly. I stopped to look at a few aboriginal carvings that I didn't take a picture of because in the wet they looked a lot like wet rock.

...this is likely to be a short entry, typed one handed as I hold my 4wk old Harry in the other,,,

Manly Beach in winterAfter the slog up it was a pretty easy trot into Manly. The tide was low so i could cross a beach and avoid a hill (hoorah!) I wanted another 3km so headed to the beach where the waves were smaller than I expected, but still good. It was a simple and flat up-and-down to bring up 21km. I was pretty cold again at the end; and stinking. With the option of a dip in the ocean to de-sweat with a cold-wind blow-dry to follow...or a cold shower, I decided to just get changed into the clothes in the backpack and hope I didn't ming too much. Breakfast was a calorie-rich-quality-low feed from the ferry cafe as I made my over to the City. Sausage roll (mainly cartilage and eyeball), caramel slice, pack of crisps and an atrociousacinno.

Job done.

Got home just after Alex woke from her lunchtime nap and we jumped in the car and took Rowlf for his Saturday swim, then had a play on the swings, a few friends popped in for a natter in the afternoon and that's the day done.

Goodnight.
